Whiteinch Community Council Update
Burgh Halls: The Burgh Halls are in a sad state of repair and Whiteinch & Scotstoun Housing Association has received funding to carry out a feasibility study on the state of the building to identify any possible future use.
Street/Civic Trees: Trees are very much part of our community, enhancing the area while contributing to environmental sustainability. Although GCC has many policies and initiatives relating to trees these do not include a focus on street trees. WCC, along with a local resident, successfully had three trees replanted on the Expressway. WCC continues to be involved in work to safeguard our local trees. It is important that Glasgow City Council maintains and replaces them. There are trees along the Expressway, on the Nature Trail, in Victoria Park that all need looking after. Many are aging and as someone said to me “How would Victoria Park look like with no trees?”: it does not bear thinking about.
Park Defibrillator: Thanks to I. McKillop for monitoring the defibrillator and ensuring that it is kept in good working order. Thanks also to our local electrician A. Ross who undertakes all maintenance free of charge.
Tennis Courts: In Victoria Park have been upgraded and Victoria Park Community Trust has been representing the community in all the discussions and work undertaken. Unfortunately the courts are not free for community use in the evenings and at week ends.
Library Underpass: Delighted to report that the work by Rebel Bear ie the ‘Scottish’ Banksy is still there in the underpass for all to enjoy.
Christmas Lights: We are hoping to again to have the last tree in front of Summerfield Cottages decorated with Christmas Lights.
Whiteinch Community Council: Meets on the last Tuesday of every month except December and July at 7pm in Whiteinch Centre and all our meetings are open to the public.
